Player Code of Conduct

Organisation: East Coast Bays Hockey Club (ECB)

At ECB, we believe that playing hockey is not only about skill and competition – it’s about teamwork, respect, and personal growth. This Code of Conduct is designed to help players thrive, contribute positively to their team, and enjoy their hockey experience while representing our club with pride.

1. Purpose

This Code of Conduct sets the standards expected of all ECB players to ensure a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment, and to uphold the reputation of East Coast Bays Hockey Club both on and off the field.

2. Core values

All players are expected to demonstrate:

  • Respect
  • Teamwork
  • Integrity
  • Sportsmanship
  • Commitment

3. Behaviour expectations

Players must:

  • Respect teammates, coaches, officials, and opponents
  • Follow the rules of hockey and competition guidelines
  • Listen to and follow coach instructions
  • Represent the club positively on and off the field
  • Arrive on time and prepared for trainings and games
  • Respond promptly to team communications (e.g. team apps, emails, messages)
  • Avoid behaviour that may bring the club or team into disrepute

4. Respect and inclusion

Players must:

  • Treat everyone fairly regardless of ability, background, or identity
  • Not engage in bullying, harassment, or discrimination

5. Safety and wellbeing

Players must:

  • Play safely and within the rules
  • Immediately notify coaches/managers of any injury or illness affecting participation and follow medical advice
  • Follow concussion protocols, including medical clearance before returning to play
  • Not participate under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • Keep relevant medical information up to date

6. Online and social media behaviour

Players must:

  • Use social media responsibly
  • Avoid posting negative or inappropriate comments about teammates, coaches, officials, or opponents
  • Respect privacy and confidentiality
  • Not post content that could harm the club, teammates, or sponsors
  • Use social media to positively promote the club, celebrate achievements, and support teammates

7. Equipment and facilities

Players must:

  • Respect club equipment and facilities
  • Use gear appropriately and return it when required

8. Commitment to the team

Players are expected to:

  • Attend trainings and games consistently and give their best effort
  • Communicate absences in advance
  • Support teammates and contribute positively to team culture
  • Inform coaches early of any scheduling conflicts (including other sports)

9. Breaches of the Code and Accountability

Failure to meet the standards outlined in this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to:

  • A warning
  • Temporary suspension
  • Removal from a team or club activities
  • Other appropriate disciplinary action as determined by the club

10. Parent/Guardian Support (Youth Players)

Parents and guardians are expected to support this Code of Conduct and reinforce these standards. Positive sideline behaviour, respect for officials and coaches, and encouragement of all players are essential to maintaining a strong club culture.

11. Acknowledgement

By registering with ECB, players (and parents/guardians where applicable) agree to follow and support this Code of Conduct.
